Get with the times, buddy. fopen may be old school, but its still a reliable tool in the toolbox. Dont knock it til youve tried it.

PHP fopen is overrated! Why bother with all that when you can just use a different language altogether? Its like trying to reinvent the wheel when there are better options out there.
